31. 그러니까 Therefore

1) 그 책이 너무 어려웠어요. 그러니까 더 쉬운 책으로 공부하세요.                                

  (그 책 the book, 너무 very,  어렵다 to be difficult, 더 more, 쉬운 책 easy book, 으로 through, by)

 

 

 

2) 그 영화는 재미없는 것 같아요. 그러니까 안 볼 거예요.                                                   

 (그 영화 the movie, 재미없다 to be boring, 보다 to see/watch)

• …는 것 같아요 I think that… / It seems to…
• …ㄹ 거예요 will…

 

 

3) I am late. Therefore I need to take a taxi.

    (늦다 to be late, 택시 taxi, 타다 to take the transportation)

• 늦었어요 be late (present)

 

 

4) I am tired. Therefore I should drink some coffee. (커피 coffee, 마시다 to drink)

• ~야 해요 should~

 

 

5) I am fat. Therefore I will work out. ( 뚱뚱하다 to be fat, 운동하다 to work out)

 

 

 

 

 

32. …니까 Because…

     (Replace […] with the stem of the infinitive verb or adjective)

      Synonym) ~서  Because~

 

1) I don’t have time so see you next time.  (시간 time, 다음에 next time)

 

 

2) I am tired so I want to drink a cup of coffee.

• …고 싶어요 want to …

 

 

3) I don’t want to do anything because I am sick. (아프다 to be sick, 아무것도 ‘anything’ for negative statement)

• …지 않아요 don’t…
• 아무거나 ‘anything’ for positive statement

 

 

4) It is cold outside so please wear warmly.  (밖에 outside, 춥다 to be cold, 따뜻하다 to be warm)

 

 

5) I am alone so I am bored. (혼자 alone, 심심하다 to be bored)

• 지루해요 bored / boring

 

6) 그 영화는 재미있으니까 꼭 보세요. (꼭 for sure)

 

 

7) 걸으니까 기분이 좋아요. (걷다 to walk, 기분이 좋다 to feel good)

 

 

8) 모르는 것을 물어보니까 이제 알겠어요.

   (물어보다 to ask, 모르는 것 something that I don't know, 이제 now)

 

9) 배고프니까 음식을 먹고 싶어요. (배고프다 to be hungry, 음식 food)

 

10) 그들을 사랑하니까 그들에게 더 잘 해주고 싶어요.                                              

     (더 more, 잘 well, 더 잘 better, 해주다 to treat)

 

 

33.  그래도 although, even though, even so

 

1) 고기를 많이 먹으면 건강에 안 좋아요. 그래도 고기를 먹어야 힘이 나요.

    (고기 meat, 건강 health, 힘이 나요 to have an energy)

• …(으)면 if …
• A에 안 좋아요 it is not good for A
• ~야 once~ (~ is the conjugated stem of the verb or adjective)

 

 

2) 오늘 운동하고 싶지 않아요. 그래도 운동하러 갈 거예요. (운동하다 to work out)

34. ~도 although, even though, even so

        (Replace [~] with the stem of the conjugated verb or adjective)

 

• ~ㅆ어도 although, even though, even so (past)

 

1) 그날 배고팠어도 아무것도 먹지 않았어요.

    (그날 that day, 아무것도 ‘anything’ in a negative statement)

• …지 않아요 don’t…
• ~ㅆ어요 past form

 

 

2) 오늘 피곤했어도 좋은 하루였어요. (좋은 하루 good day)

• 였어요 was, were

 

 

3) I will study Korean for sure even though I don’t have time.                                                  

    (시간 time, 꼭 for sure)

 

 

4) Although Korean is difficult it is fun. (어렵다 to be difficult)

 

 

 

35. Noun (이)나 or

Synonym) 또는

 

• After consoanant ending Noun, we put 나
• After vowel ending Noun, we put 이나

 

1) I work at home or at a company. (집 house,  회사 company)

 

 

2) I will go traveling to Jeju island or Busan. (제주도 Jeju island, 부산 Busan, 여행가다 to go traveling)

        

 

3) I want to buy a pair of pants or a skirt. (바지 pants, 치마 skirt, 사다 to buy)

 

 

4) 저는 그녀에게 사탕이나 초콜릿을 주고 싶어요. (사탕 candy, 초콜릿 chocolate, 주다 to give)

        

 

5) 후식으로 케이크나 과일을 먹고 싶어요.

    (후식 desert, (으)로 as, 케이크 cake, 과일 fruit)

 

 

36. …거나 [A]

      (Replace […] with the stem of the infinitive verb or adjective)

 

1) 아기는 배고프거나 똥 싸면 울어요.

    (배고프다 to be hungry, 똥 싸다 to poop, 울다 to cry)

• …(으)면 if…

 

 

2)  주말에 집에서 쉬거나 영화를 볼 거예요. (주말에 over the weekend, 쉬다 to rest)

 

 

3) I will read books or prepare dinner this afternoon.  (오늘 오후에 in this afternoon, 준비하다 to prepare, 저녁 dinner)

   If you eat too much meat it is not good for health. Though once I eat some meat, I have some energy.
