How can I say "I want" in Korean?

 

"…고 싶어요" =  want to … (... is the stem of the infinitive verb)

• When you drop the infinitive marker 다 from the infinitive form, the rest is the stem.

• For example, 가다 to go 가 is the stem, 공부하다 to study 공부하 is the stem.

 

1) 먹고 싶어요. I want to eat.

먹다 to eat 

먹 is the stem of 먹다

먹 + 고 싶어요 want to eat

 

2) 이것을 사고 싶어요. I want to buy this.

이것 this

사다 to buy

사 is the stem of 사다

사 + 고 싶어요 want to buy

 

3) 교통카드를 사고 싶어요. I want to buy a transportation card.

5) 핸드폰을 충전하고 싶어요. I want to charge my cellphone.
