21. …는 동안에 while…ing

     (Replace […] with the stem of the infinitive verb or adjective)

 

• In the period of A, B happens

 

1) 한국에 있는 동안에 그를 만날 거예요.

 

 

2) 대학교에 다니는 동안에 친구를 많이 사귀고 싶어요.

     (다니다 to attend, 사귀다 to date/ to make a friend)

 

 

3) 시험을 보는 동안에 선생님이 왔다갔다했어요.

    (시험을 보다 to take a test, 왔다갔다하다 to go around)

 

 

4) Please study while I travel. (여행하다 to travel)

 

 

5) I saw the person while waiting in line.

    (줄을 서서 기다리다 to wait in line, 그 사람 the person)

 

 

6) I listen to music while studying. (음악을 듣다 to listen to music)

 

 

7) He will work hard for her while waiting for her.

    (Noun을/를 위해 for Noun, 기다리다 to wait)

 

8) A stranger sat next to me while we talked to each other.

     (서로each other, 이야기하다 to talk, 모르는 사람 a stranger, 제 옆에 next to me, 앉다 to sit)

 

 

 

22. 도too, also, although, even

 

1) I have been there, too. (거기에 there, 가 봤어요 have been)

 

2) I will eat Bibimbap, too. […ㄹ게요 will (promise to others)]

 

 

3) My friend will also go to his birthday party.  

 

 

4) I need to study hard even though it is tough.

(힘들다 to be tough, 열심히 hard, ~야 해요 = ~야 돼요 should ~/need to~/have to~, ~도  even though, although)

 

 

5) He came, as well.  

 

 

6) 제 친구도 드라마를 좋아해요. (드라마 soap opera)

 

 

7) 제 파티에 올 수 없어도 괜찮아요.  (~도  even though, although)

 

 

8) 당신을 보고 있어도 보고 싶어요. (~도  even though, although)

 

 

9) 지금도 그때를 잊을 수 없어요. (지금도 even now, 그때 back then)

 

 

23. Noun와/과  with, and

     Noun(이)랑  with, and

     Noun하고    with, and

 

• If a noun ends with a consonant, 이랑 or 과 is added to the noun
• If a noun ends with a vowel, 랑 or 와 is added to the noun

 

1) Q Which countries did you travel?  (나라 country, 여행하다 to travel, 어느  which)

 

    A I traveled to Germany, UK and France.  

       (독일 Germany, 영국 UK, 프랑스 France)

 

 

2) I ate Bibimbap and Kimchistew.

     (비빔밥 Bibimbap, 김치찌개 Kimchistew)

4) 제 학교 친구와 함께 아점을 먹었어요. (아점 = 아침 + 점심 brunch)

 

 

24. 그러나 = 그런데 = 하지만 but

 

1) 저는 태권도를 좋아해요. 하지만 못해요. (태권도 Taekwondo, 못하다 be bad at)

 

 

2) 저는 아프리카에 가고 싶어요. 그런데 시간이 없어서 못 가요.                           (아프리카 Africa, 시간 time, ~서 because~, 못 can’t)

 

 

3) I want to watch a movie. But I can’t watch it. (영화 movie)

 

 

4) I am hungry. But I can’t eat now. (배고프다 to be hungry, 먹다 to eat, 지금 now)

 

 

5)  I am sleepy. But I can’t sleep now. (졸리다 to be sleepy, 자다 to sleep)

 

 

6) I like action movies. But I don’t like horror movies.

    (공포 horror, 싫어하다 to dislike)

 

 

 

25. …지만 = ...ㄴ/은/는데 but (present)

     (Replace […] with the stem of the infinitive verb or adjective)

 

• …ㅆ지만 = …ㅆ는데 but (past)

 

1) 커피를 마셨지만 여전히 피곤해요. (여전히 still)

 

 

2) 콘서트에 가고 싶은데 시간이 없어요. (콘서트 concert)

 

 

3) He is nice but sometimes he is strange. (가끔 sometimes)

 

 

4) I want to sleep until 9 am but I need to go to work.

    (회사 company, ~야 해요 = ~야 돼요 need to~)

1) 그녀는 공부를 잘해요. 그리고 운동도 잘해요.                                          (잘해요 be good at, 운동 sport, 도 also)

 

 

2) 어제 저녁으로 피자를 먹었어요. 그리고 콜라도 마셨어요.                             (어제 yesterday, 저녁으로 as a dinner, 피자 pizza, 콜라 coke, 마시다 to drink)

 

 

3) 오늘 숙제를 했어요. 그리고 세탁도 했어요.                                                (오늘 today, 숙제 homework, 세탁 laundry)

 

 

4) I like sunflowers. And I also like roses. (해바라기 sunflower, 장미꽃 rose, 도 also)

 

 

5) I meet my family. And I eat dinner with my family.                                           (가족 family, 만나다 to meet, 저녁 diner)

 

 

6) I met my friends on Saturday. And I met my family on Sunday.

      (Replace […] with the stem of the infinitive verb or adjective)

 

1) I dance and sing with them. (춤추다 to dance)

 

 

2) I eat and drink with my family.

 

 

3) She eats dinner and watches TV. (저녁 dinner)

 

 

4) 그는 피자를 먹고 저는 햄버거를 먹어요.

 

 

5) 수영하기와 달리기는 아주 좋은 운동이에요.

1) 피곤해요? 그러면 쉬세요.                                                                              (쉬다 to rest, 쉬세요 please take a rest)

 

 

2) 그 남자를 알아요? 그러면 그에게 인사하세요.                                              (그 남자 the man, 인사하다 to greet)

 

 

3) A. 저는 금요일만 시간이 괜찮아요. (만 only, 금요일 Friday)

4)  Are you hungry? Then please eat food.                                              (배고프다 to be hungry, 음식 food, 드세요 please eat)

     (Replace [~] with the stem of the conjugated verb or adjective)

 

Synonym) …니까 because …

 

1) 사탕이 너무 맛있어서 너무 많이 먹었어요. (사탕 candy, 너무 많이 too much)

 

2) 안 먹어서 배고파요. (배고프다 to be hungry)

 

3) 여행이 길어서 오늘 피곤해요. (여행 trip, 길다 to be long)

 

4) I will study Korean hard because Korean is interesting. (열심히 hard)

 

 

5) I could not do the homework because I didn’t have time.

    (시간 time, 숙제 homework)

 

6) Since the house is dirty I will clean it. (더럽다 to be dirty, 청소하다 to clean)

 

7)  I want to eat ice cream because today it is very hot.                           (오늘 today, 덥다 to be hot, 너무 very, 먹고 싶어요 want to eat)

 

8) I should go to the restroom because I drank water a lot.                               (마시다 to drink, 화장실 restroom, 많이 a lot)

 

9) I am happy because I saw a good movie.                                              (좋은 영화 good movie, 행복하다 to be happy)

 

10) 콘서트를 끝내서 축하해요.                                                                     (콘서트 concert, 끝내다 to finish something, 축하해요 congratulations)

 

11) 초콜릿 때문에 살쪄서 운동해야 해요.                                                       (때문에 due to, 살찌다 to gain weight, 운동하다 to work out)

 

12) 점심을 너무 많이 먹어서 졸려요.                                                                   (점심 lunch, 너무 많이 too much, 졸리다 to be sleepy)
