Exercise 1) Complete the sentences as in the given example.

  • … 고 싶어요 want to eat… (…is the stem of the infinitive verb or adjective)

  • In the case of the form containing the Noun + Verb = (VERB) : negation marker안 is placed between the Noun and the Verb This is because the negation marker안 should be placed right before a verb.

Exception) 좋아해요 (like) → 안 좋아해요 (don’t like)

Ex) 말 안 해요 = 말하지 않아요                                don’t speak

     일 안 해요 = 일하지 않아요                                 don’t work  

 

  • In the case of an (Adjective)  is composed of a Verb : negation marker 안 is placed before the Adjective since the verb 해요 is not related to the verb 해요 which means “do”.

Ex) 안 착해요 = 착하지 않아요                                 not nice

     안 피곤해요 = 피곤하지 않아요                          not tired

        (Replace […] with the stem of the infinitive verb or adjective)

안 먹고 싶어요                          don’t want to eat

 

 

Q1. 피자를 먹고 싶어요? (먹다 to eat)

      Do you want to eat pizza?

 

A1. 아니요, 피자를 먹고 싶지 않아요. 저는 햄버거를 먹고 싶어요.

   = 아니요, 피자를 안 먹고 싶어요. 저는 햄버거를 먹고 싶어요.

      No, I don’t want to eat pizza. I want to eat a hamburger.

 

 

Q2. 음악을 듣고 싶어요? (듣다 to listen, 음악 music)

      Do you want to listen to the music?

 

A2. 아니요, 음악을 듣고 싶지 않아요.

   = 아니요, 음악을 안 듣고 싶어요.

      No, I don’t want to listen to the music.

 

 

Exercise 4) Write each negative sentence in another way. Then translate the following sentences into English and vice versa.
